Why is there a delay between when I post & when my message is broadcast?
Note: You can track the status of your posting any time. Messages are never broadcast instantly because, once you post your message, it has to be moderated & approved by our trained Moderator. The Moderator checks that the format & content are right/suitable, based on our values & postings guidelines. We try to broadcast messages within 1 business day. However, especially after weekends, there is sometimes a back-log of messages. So, if your message is time sensitive, make sure you allow up to 3 business days for your message to be approved. Please do not contact us regarding a delayed posting unless more than 2 business days have passed. If there is an issue with your posting, our goal is to contact you within 2 business days.

Can I post messages to Quentin's Friends on behalf of Non-Members?
To post messages to the community you must be a Trial or Paying Member. Instead of posting on behalf of Non-Members, assuming you can vouch for their character, we encourage you to Invite them to enjoy a Free Trial Membership to Quentin's Friends This way they can post a message for themselves, enjoy all the benefits of Quentin's Friends Membership and you avoid the hassle of relaying responses to the posting. If you prefer to post on behalf of the Non-Member, please only do so if you can fully vouch for their character, and let them know of our values & standards. If you decide to post on behalf the Non-Member, a $5 posting-on-behalf of-a-Non-Member contribution-fee is built into the posting process. The charge can be made to the credit card we have on file for you, or to a different card. The posting on behalf of a friend fee does not apply in the ''Recommend'' category.

Can I forward postings to Non-Members?
You are welcome to forward postings to individual Non-Members, but please note that, for our member's security, their email addresses are masked when we broadcast messages. Responses pass through our server & can only be sent by Trial & Paid-up Members. So, unless the sender includes contact information in the body of the email, the Non-Member may not be able to respond to the posting. If you expect the Non-Member to interact with a Quentin's Friends member, please make them aware of the values we expect them to respect in all interactions. Please do not re-post postings to other listservs, bulletin boards or websites without prior written consent from the member who posted the message.

Can I post business/professional related messages to the listserv?
To post messages to the community you must be a Trial or Paying Member. Each paid-up member has the opportunity to promote their business (once only), as part of a personal introduction email, by choosing the Posting Category 'Introduce Yourself'. In this case, the personal introduction part should be as substantial or greater than the business promotion. Otherwise - members can promote their products or services by clicking on the posting category 'Promote Products or Services'. A per-posting contribution $15 is required for a business-related posting that specifically promotes your product, service or (non-charity) revenue generating event. The charge is made as part of the posting process & can be made to the credit card we have on file for you, or to a different card. When posting a business-related email, a (100 character) personal introduction is required, however once you have written it, you can save and reuse it for future business postings. The personal intro' should be about yourself, as a member, individual & friend, completely separate from and not connected with your Business. We ask for the personal introduction to ensure that business postings have a personal as opposed to commercial or SPAM-like feel. In addition, we believe that you will get a better response to your posting if our members have a feel for who you are. To make a business posting to the Quentin's Friends listserv: - Log-in at Quentin's Friends Web Site
- If you have not yet registered with the site, you will need to do so by clicking on: 'Please Register' under the login boxes.
- In 'my hQ' click on 'Post a Message' in the 'Just Do It' section on the left hand side.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page & enter the date until which you wish to suspend your emails.
- Click on 'Promote Products or Services' (or 'Invite People to Event' for events).
Please keep it straight-forward and not 'sales-y'! Remember that people will be able to click to your Personal Profile via a link in your posting, so make sure it's up to date(!). Finally, please remember to SAY THANKQ to members who help you out. If you receive too many emails to thank people individually then send a ThankQ message via the listserv to all of Quentin's Friends. Q-TIP for Freelancers: If you are a freelancer, you can post for free under 'Seeking Work'. Your posting will then show in this format (for Example): 'Seeking Work: F-Lance Lion Tamer NYC'.

How can I tell if a posting is a paid business posting?
Business/paid postings have the letters 'Bz' at the end, in brackets. For example: 'Offered: Accounting Services (Bz)' The exception is for Brokers submitting real-estate postings. They also pay a fee but the notifications are: '[Broker w/ Fee]' or '[Broker / No Fee]'. For example: Offered: Studio Apt For Rent In NYC LT From 03/01/2008; $2,000/mth [Broker / No Fee]

Why do I pay a business posting contribution fee (when I am already paying a membership fee)?
Your membership dues support the running & development of Quentin's Friends which allows you to enjoy participating in the community, while the per-business-posting $15 fee is in exchange for the opportunity to promote your business, products, services or events to Quentin's Friends. The reason we charge the fee is not to 'make money', it is to make members think twice before posting. Our thinking is that if a business related posting is not 'worth' spending $15 to post, then it is probably not worth filling up our members' in boxes with it. If we include commercial/business-related postings within the membership dues, then the volume of commercial/ business-related emails would increase considerably & could change the very nature of Quentin's Friends - it could just become a forum for self-promotion. As we ask all other members to pay the $15 fee it would not be fair to not apply the fee to you, so please do not ask us to make an exception. If the only reason that you are considering becoming a member of Quentin's Friends is to promote you business then it may not be the right community for you.. Most members who post business postings, participate fully in, and contribute to the community in a general way, while from time to time doing a paid posting about their business.

Can I post about Network or Multi-Level Marketing opportunities?
While we at Quentin's Friends do not have a specifically positive or negative point of view on Direct Sales, Multi-level or Network Marketing, our members have made it clear that they do not wish to receive invitations to opportunity meetings or recruitment solicitations. Thus, per our Membership Agreement we ask that you do not submit such postings - thanks!

What if none of the categories correspond to my message subject/content?
By choosing the right category, your posting will be correctly categorized in the Daily Digest & more easily found in the Message Archive. If you are 100% sure no other category such as Seeking Miscellaneous or Offering Miscellaneous is appropriate for your posting, then on the bottom left hand corner there is a 'Miscellaneous' posting category you can choose. Please note however, that if you post in 'Miscellaneous' category when another category is in fact appropriate, we may ask you to re-post in the correct category, which will of course delay the broadcast of your posting. If you feel strongly that we should add a posting category, we value your feedback, so please contact us.

Is the Quentin’s Friends Yahoo Groups Listserv still running?
No, when we launched the new site, we migrated the listserv away from Yahoo Groups. This has allowed us to improve the features such as the 'Daily Digest' which is now categorized, and to add new features such as personal profiles which include your past postings. It has also made it much easier for members to register and update their Member Preferences (member email address, Daily Digest vs. Individual Emails etc.).

Is Quentin’s Friends virus & firewall protected?
Quentin’s Friends takes virus protection extremely seriously: - All emails sent by us or members & replies members send to emails, are scanned for viruses. So, you will never receive an infected email from us, or from a member replying to a posting.
In addition: - Any files of any sort that are uploaded to our server are automatically scanned for viruses.
- We have a top-of-the-range physical/hardware firewall (as opposed the less effective software type) protecting our servers from hackers etc.
